Portswood Ward Liberal Democrats
Portswood is situated almost in the centre of the city. It is bordered to the East by the River Itchen, to the west by Southampton Common. It contains the Conservation area of the Uplands Estate designed by Herbert Collins and the main campus of Southampton University, one of the top universities in the country.

This was in the by-election following Diana Maddock's sensational victory in the Christchurch Parliamentary by-election which took place earlier that year. Jill took Diana's place on the City Council with the highest percentage vote of any Lib Dem councillor for the ward. Jill acheived the highest vote of any councillor from any party when the entire City Council was elected in May 2002. Jill was the Lib Dem Council Group spokesperson on the Environment. Following the 2003 local elections when the Lib Dems became the majority Party on the City Council, Jill became the City Council cabinet member for the Environment and Transport. When the Lib Dems held the balance of power he was the Chair of Hampshire Social Sevices committee. A position he held until Local Government Reorganisation in 1997. Adrian was elected to the City Council when it became a Unitary Authority in 1996 He was recently Group Leader of the Lib Dem Group on Southampton City Council. Following the 2003 local elections when the Lib Dems became the majority Party on the City Council, Adrian became Leader of Southampton City Council.
