Tories just aren't that Green - Sollitt

Councillor Steve Sollitt, Liberal Democrat Campaigner for Southampton Test has accused the Tories of not taking green issues that seriously. His comments come in a week when the Conservatives failed to support a Liberal Democrat move in Parliament on Green Taxes and also locally they failed to have a stall at a Friends of the Earth event in the city.

Steve said "Not only am I shocked that a party who claim to be green minded fail to have a stall at this well attended event in the city but I am flabbergasted that their Parliamentary party fail to support the Lib Dems in parliament over green issues too"

"A party that is trying to show that its green credentials are better than they used to be have failed again. Here in the city we are used to this type of attitude from local Tories who voted down a greener way of collecting waste through an alternate weekly system, a system that has been introduced by a neighbouring Tory council"

The Friends of the Earth event at Bolderwood campus attracted over 150 people
