Restoration of Southampton's Tudor House Museum to start in October3.32.03pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 10th Sep 2006
Southampton City Council has announced the forthcoming restoration of the city's Tudor House Museum. The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has granted £1.29m towards the project, which will be developed by Staffordshire-based restoration specialists Linford-Bridgeman. The building - built in 1491 by John Dawtrey - needs structural strengthening and extensive repairs to the roof. Work will commence in October when scaffolding will be placed over the building to protect it during the repair stage, which will last 18 months. After that, an internal refit of the museum and exhibition centre will commence. The council's cabinet member for leisure and culture, Steve Sollitt, said: "We have worked extensively for many years to reach this point. With final approval from the HLF, we can now look forward to work starting."
