Labour Dithers Over Council Tax Future

The decision by Labour to perform a "U-Turn" and delay any proposals to re evaluate properties under the Council tax has been welcomed by Steve Sollitt, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Southampton Test

Steve said "During the General Election I highlighted that this plan by Labour would have a huge impact on the residents in Southampton as property prices have increased more than the national average here over the last 15 years"

"The impact of the changes in Wales has been significant with more people losing out. In many parts of England, including here in Southampton, the situation would have been worse"

"The Council Tax is an unfair tax system and needs to be changed. The delay till at least 2009, after the next General Election, just appears to be a tactic to put off the day when the issue of local taxation has to be addressed. Its such a pity that Labour are letting us all down by their dithering over the issue"
