Liberal Democrats Five Proposals on Crime8.56.59pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 13th Apr 2005
The Liberal Democrats have launched proposals to tackle crime with effective, realistic and practical solutions to tackle the complex issues of crime and punishment. A long-term strategy to bring communities into the process will mean that people can be part of the solution rather than powerless victims. TOP FIVE PROPOSALS FOR CRIME: 10,000 more police on the streets - cutting crime and the fear of crime. Get tough on anti-social behaviour. Give prisoners skills for work not crime. Make offenders pay back to victims and their communities through tough community work. Increasing police resources to provide quality investigations, safe convictions. Steve Sollitt, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Southampton Test said "Eight years ago Labour promised to tackle the causes of crime, but they've done nothing to reduce drug use which is behind so much crime. We will introduce tougher sentences for drug dealers and provide more drug rehabilitation for users."
