Liberal Democrats in Southampton Test have officially adopted Steve Sollitt as their Candidate for the forthcoming General Election.

Speaking to a packed room, Steve said "We have a great opportunity at the forthcoming election here in Southampton Test. We are 8% higher in the opinion polls than we were at the start of the 2001 election and 10% higher than in 1997."

"Only the Liberal Democrats increased our percentage of the vote as well as the actual number of votes at the last General Election. Since then we have taken minority control of the Council after many years of Labour neglect and we hold more seats than any other party in Southampton Test"

"Living and working in our area, I understand the issues that are concerning us all. I am the only LOCAL candidate who can beat Labour here"

Steve commented on the fact he has been contacted by many disillusioned Labour and Tory voters who have now pledged their support to the Liberal Democrats.

"This election Southampton Test can send a clear message, the Liberal Democrats are the only real alternative to Labour here and that being local matter too"
